The name “brass” historically comes to the stuff which was applied in making these musical instruments. With the developing of metal working process and the producing instruments of metal it became feasible to create pipes of different dimensions and finishing. During the progress of brass instruments and the improvement of diverse natural scale sound playing the term of natural instruments appeared. There were no valve instruments, that is why such instruments could produce only natural scale. Guilds of trumpeters appeared at those centuries. At that age two guilds of trumpeters existed: martial pipers who played martial songs and chambers trumpeters that played in castles.

Nineteenth century became the century when valve mechanism was invented. This invention increased the ability of scales and the technique of performance also changed. An extra crown was included in the basic pipe, it increased the size of an instrument and lowered its pitch.
